July 14, 2023 marked an exciting day as the Volta-Oti Zonal Championship for the 2023 National Science and Maths Quiz kicked off. Nineteen schools from the region gathered to compete for a chance to win the prestigious championship title.
Divided into five contests, the schools battled it out in intense rounds of questions and problem-solving.
Here are the results of the quarterfinals:
Contest 1
Bishop Herman College emerged as the clear winner in Contest 1, securing an impressive score of 35. E.P.C. Mawuko Girls’ SHS followed closely behind with 29 points, while Awudome SHS and St. Paul’s SHS gave a commendable performance, scoring 23 and 21 points respectively.
Contest 2
Contest 2 witnessed a thrilling tie as Kpando SHS, OLA SHS, Ho, and Hohoe E.P. SHS all finished with a score of 17. Their equal performance highlighted the intense competition among these schools. However, St. Catherine SHS put up a valiant effort and secured 12 points in the contest. At the end of the day, Kpando SHS won the tie-breaker question and proceeded to the semifinal.
Contest 3
Mawuli School proved their mettle in Contest 3, dominating the competition with a remarkable score of 40. Kadjebi-Asato SHS followed in second place with 25 points, while Krachi SHS and Sogakope SHS made commendable efforts, scoring 18 and 13 points respectively.
Contest 4
In Contest 4, Abor SHS secured an impressive score of 31. St. Mary’s Seminary SHS, Lolobi followed behind with 18 points, while Zion College and Adidome SHS scored 16 and 13 respectively.
Contest 5
Contest 5 witnessed a fierce battle between Anlo SHS and Keta SHTS. In the end, Anlo SHS emerged victorious with a score of 40. Keta SHTS put up an excellent performance, securing 36 points, which allowed them to qualify as the top runners-up from the day’s set of contests. Bueman SHS also received a respectable score of 21.
These outstanding schools have now advanced to the semifinal stage of the Volta-Oti Zonal Championship. On July 15, 2023, they will compete against each other to determine which schools will make it to the final contest and ultimately claim the championship title.
