The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has launched a special online portal to assist students whose Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) results have been cancelled or withheld due to examination irregularities. The new system, known as the Irregularity Reporting & Investigation System (IRIS), is now live at irreg.waecgh.org.
This development comes as part of WAEC’s drive to boost transparency and accountability in the conduct of national examinations.
What the Portal Offers
The IRIS platform is designed exclusively for BECE candidates and provides a structured way to track and manage cases of exam malpractice. It gives candidates, parents, and schools a secure space to view updates in real time, with tools for monitoring and analyzing the status of each reported irregularity.
The portal is divided into two sections:
- Candidate Login – Requires an index number, date of birth, and exam year.
- School Login – Requires an email address and password for institutions handling cases on behalf of students.
Candidates whose grades show symbols such as “W” (withheld) or “*” (cancelled) are strongly encouraged to check the portal regularly for case updates.
How to Log In as a Candidate
To access the platform, candidates should:
- Visit irreg.waecgh.org.
- Select Candidate Login.
- Enter their Index Number, Date of Birth, and Year of Examination.
- View the status of their reported irregularities.
BECE 2025 at a Glance
This year’s BECE recorded a total of 603,328 school candidates—made up of 297,250 boys and 306,078 girls—from 20,395 junior high schools. An additional 1,661 private candidates also sat for the exams.
The Ashanti Region presented the highest number of candidates (119,354), followed by Greater Accra (111,700) and Central Region (67,146). To maintain the credibility of the exams, WAEC deployed more than 25,000 supervisors and invigilators across 2,237 centres nationwide.
The examination for both school and private candidates took place from June 11 to June 18, 2025. While the release of the provisional results is yet to be confirmed, WAEC has assured the public that results will be released soon.
