In a recent development at the Wa Magistrate Court, justice was served as a final-year student of the Wa Technical Institute faced the consequences of his actions.
Yissif Mudaair, a final-year student at the Wa Technical Institute, faced charges of physically assaulting his housemaster, Ishmail Musah Froko. After the trial, where he pleaded guilty to the crime, the court handed down its judgment.
Magistrate Maxwell Mac-Brown Titrigu, considering the seriousness of the offense, decided on a fine of GH¢2000 to be paid by the student’s parents. The purpose of this fine was to cover the cost of the teacher’s medical treatment, as he was the victim of the assault.
Additionally, as part of the verdict, the court directed Yissif Mudaair to sign a bond committing to good behavior for a period of one year. Failure to comply with this condition could result in imprisonment for the same duration. The judge’s decision was influenced by the fact that the accused was a student and appeared before the court for the first time.
Apart from Yissif Mudaair, two other individuals were implicated in the assault on the teacher, Ishmail Musah Froko. However, their roles in the incident were different, leading to distinct outcomes.
Salifu Razak, the second accused person, failed to appear before the court. This non-appearance implies that he may have fled or evaded the authorities, which could result in further legal consequences if he is apprehended.
On the other hand, Christian Kieseh Confidence, the third accused person, was cleared of any wrongdoing. Investigations revealed his innocence in the crime, leading to his discharge from the case.
Following the court’s verdict, Ishmail Musah Froko, the assaulted housemaster, expressed his satisfaction with the judgment. He acknowledged the significance of the court’s decision, stating that it would serve as a deterrent not only to students at his school but also to students in other Senior High Schools across the country. Despite being the victim, he expressed concern for his student, Yissif Mudaair, and expressed his desire for the best outcome for him.
