On June 30, 2023, the halls of Adisadel College were shaken by an appalling incident that shocked parents, educators, and the public alike. A video depicting an act of violence between two students within the school premises went viral on social media, raising concerns about safety, discipline, and the overall well-being of students.

As the distressing details of the incident emerged, the need for a prompt and thorough investigation became evident. However, in a recent turn of events, Adisadel College has taken a crucial step towards healing and redemption by reinstating the student who was assaulted in the viral video by his colleague.

Though the specifics of the incident were not fully disclosed, the video revealed a distressing act of violence between two students. The incident had remained hidden until the footage came to light, implicating both the perpetrator and the victim.

What was even more disheartening was the fact that the victim had chosen not to report the incident, likely due to fear or shame.

The revelation of this incident ignited a wave of outrage among concerned individuals who expected educational institutions to be safe havens where students are respected, nurtured, and protected. The incident prompted serious questions about the school’s discipline and safety measures, leading to a thorough investigation by the authorities.

In response to the gravity of the situation, Adisadel College’s disciplinary committee took decisive action against all those involved. The student responsible for the violence was suspended and not allowed to write exams on campus, being directed to take his exams at a designated WAEC center. Surprisingly, the victim also faced disciplinary action, which sparked further debate and concern.

The individual who filmed the incident and shared it on social media also faced suspension externally for one week. Upon returning, they were required to complete internal work for another week and had to submit their phone as part of the sanction. Onlookers who failed to intervene or report the incident were also subjected to internal punishment.

Furthermore, the housemaster, Mr. Ekow Holman, was suspended from his duties due to his perceived failure in handling the situation appropriately.

In the wake of the incident, the school authorities and the Ghana Education Service (GES) conducted a thorough investigation to understand the circumstances and determine the appropriate actions. As part of their commitment to fostering a safe and nurturing environment, Adisadel College made a significant decision that shows empathy, compassion, and a commitment to healing.

In a recent update shared by UTV News, it is reported that Adisadel College has reversed its initial decision and reinstated the student who was assaulted in the viral video by his colleague. This decision signifies a crucial step towards acknowledging the victim’s rights and emotional well-being.

As the victim continues to receive medical treatment and undergo psychological counseling to aid in his recovery from the traumatic experience, it is imperative that Adisadel College, along with other educational institutions, work diligently to implement preventive measures and create an atmosphere where students feel safe and encouraged to report any incidents of violence or harassment.
