As Ghana continues its journey towards educational excellence, one agency stands out for its responsiveness and dedication to enhancing educational standards – the National Schools Inspectorate Authority (NaSIA).
Ahead of the publication of its 3rd Open Governance Report, Africa Education Watch (EduWatch) has hailed NaSIA as the most responsive education sector agency in the country.
The National Schools Inspectorate Authority (NaSIA), an agency of the Ministry of Education, plays a crucial role in the Ghanaian education system. Established in 2008 through the Education Act, 778, NaSIA was created to conduct independent external evaluations of the quality and standards in basic and second-cycle educational institutions across the country.
With its three main responsibilities – School Inspection, School Evaluation, and Standards Enforcement – NaSIA strives to ensure that schools adhere to established guidelines, maintain high educational standards, and offer an enriching learning environment for students.
The Education Regulatory Bodies Act (ERBA, 2020 – ACT 1023) outlines the comprehensive mandate of NaSIA. The agency is entrusted with several crucial tasks, including:
- Development of educational standards
- Publication and promotion of these standards
- Licensing of both public and private Pre-Tertiary Schools
- Enforcement of education-related regulations
Under the competent leadership of Dr. Haggar Hilda Ampadu, NaSIA has been steadfast in carrying out these responsibilities, thus contributing significantly to the improvement of the educational landscape in Ghana.
At the helm of NaSIA’s operations stands Dr. Haggar Hilda Ampadu, the Executive Director and Inspector-General of Schools. Dr. Ampadu is an exceptional leader with an impressive academic background and a wealth of experience in regulatory policy and educational evaluation.
She holds a Doctor of Philosophy Degree (PhD) in Regulatory Policy & Pharmacoepidemiology from Utrecht University in the Netherlands, where her research focused on Regulation Policy and Pharmacoepidemiology for Medicine Safety in Africa. Her insights into regulatory matters have proven invaluable in shaping NaSIA’s approach to evaluating educational institutions effectively.
Additionally, Dr. Ampadu possesses a Master’s Degree in Management (Project Management) from Boston University, USA, and a bachelor’s Degree in Biological Sciences from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology in Kumasi. Her diverse educational background and rich experiences contribute to her well-rounded leadership style and ability to navigate the complexities of Ghana’s education sector.
