Speaking during an engagement at the Jubilee House, the Minister emphasized that the recruitment forms a crucial part of government’s broader strategy to enhance teaching and learning outcomes across the country. He noted that the move aims to address critical teacher shortages in classrooms, especially with the increasing student population resulting from the Free Senior High School (SHS) policy and other access-driven reforms in the education sector.
According to the Ministry, the recruitment of the 53,000 teachers will focus on filling vacancies across basic, secondary, and TVET institutions, ensuring equitable teacher distribution, especially in underserved and rural communities. The Minister further noted that the recruitment drive is not only about filling gaps but also about strengthening the human resource capacity in the sector for long-term educational development.
In a related update, the Public Relations Officer of the Ghana Education Service (GES), Mr. Daniel Fenyi, confirmed on UTV’s Morning Show that the recruitment exercise will indeed take place within the 2025/2026 academic year, offering hope to trained teachers awaiting posting, particularly graduates from the 2022 batch of Colleges of Education and university-trained teachers.
