The Management of the Ghana Education Service (GES) has provided clarity on the categories of teachers eligible for responsibility allowance. This announcement comes in response to growing concerns among educators about the non-payment of these allowances, which has been a lingering issue for some time.
Teachers entitled to receive the responsibility allowance have reportedly not been consistently recognized for their roles, leaving many without the financial benefits they deserve. However, GES has emphasized that not all teachers within the Service qualify for this allowance. Out of the over 350,000 teachers on the GES payroll, only 35,512 meet the criteria for eligibility.
To ensure transparency, the GES has outlined nine specific categories of teachers who are eligible for the responsibility allowance. These categories recognize the additional duties and responsibilities that come with certain roles within the Service.
