The Ghana Education Service (GES) has officially released the 2025/2026 academic calendar for Senior High Schools (SHS) operating under the Single Track system. This announcement outlines the reopening dates, term durations, vacation periods, and examination timelines for SHS Forms 1, 2, and 3. Students, parents, and educators are advised to take note of these critical dates to ensure proper planning for the academic year ahead.

Reopening Dates for the 2025/2026 Academic Year

According to the calendar, schools will resume in a staggered manner based on the form levels:

• SHS 3 students will reopen on 11th October, 2025.
• SHS 1 & SHS 2 students will reopen slightly later, between 18th – 20th October, 2025.

These dates mark the official commencement of the 2025/2026 academic year for students in the single track system.

Term Breakdown and Vacation Periods

The academic year has been split into two major in-school periods with clearly defined vacation breaks:

Form 3 (Final Year Students):

• First Term: 11th October, 2025 – 27th February, 2026 (18 weeks)
  • Break: 20th December, 2025 – 4th January, 2026 (Christmas Break)
• Second Term: 13th March, 2026 – 21st June, 2026 (14 weeks)
  • Break: 28th February – 12th March, 2026

Note: The WASSCE exams will be held from 20th April to 20th June, 2026, during their final in-school term.

Form 2:

• First Term: 18th October, 2025 – 27th February, 2026 (17 weeks)
  • Break: 20th December, 2025 – 4th January, 2026
• Second Term: 4th May, 2026 – 21st August, 2026 (16 weeks)
  • Break: 28th February – 3rd May, 2026

Form 1:

• First Term: 18th October, 2025 – 27th February, 2026 (17 weeks)
  • Break: 20th December, 2025 – 4th January, 2026
• Second Term: 4th May, 2026 – 21st August, 2026 (16 weeks)
  • Break: 28th February – 3rd May, 2026

Travel and Vacation Periods

The calendar also highlights designated travel and vacation periods for smooth transitions:

• 20th – 22nd December, 2025: Travel period before Christmas break
• 27th February – 1st March, 2026: Vacation/Travel period for SHS 3
• 4th – 6th May, 2026: Travel/Reopening window for SHS 1 & 2
• 21st – 23rd August, 2026: End-of-year vacation and travel period for SHS 1 & 2

Next Academic Year Begins in September

As per the current schedule, the 2026/2027 academic year is proposed to begin on 11th September, 2026, providing students and schools a brief transitional period after the close of the 2025/2026 session.

• WASSCE 2026: Scheduled from 20th April – 20th June, 2026, applicable to all final-year (Form 3) students.
