The Ghana Education Service (GES) has officially revoked all appointments and recruitments of teaching and non-teaching staff who have not yet been placed on the government payroll. This directive follows an order from the Chief of Staff, based on a letter from the Office of the President dated February 10, 2025.

In a statement issued on February 17, 2025, the Acting Director-General of GES, Prof. Ernest Kofi Davis, confirmed the revocation and instructed Regional, District, Municipal, and Metropolitan Directors of Education to ensure strict adherence to the order.

Additionally, the statement assures that further updates will be provided when necessary. The revocation applies to both teaching and non-teaching staff, impacting those awaiting payroll inclusion.

Background: Why This Decision Was Made

This move comes amid the government’s broader decision to revoke public sector appointments and recruitments made after December 7, 2024. The new administration has cited concerns over governance procedures, arguing that some last-minute appointments under the previous government did not follow due process.

What This Means for Affected Staff

The revocation means that those yet to be placed on the payroll have effectively lost their appointments. While this creates uncertainty, affected individuals may have to wait for further instructions from GES or explore other opportunities.

GES has assured that any additional information will be communicated as necessary.

Conclusion: A Major Shake-Up in GES Recruitment

This decision is part of the government’s broader effort to regulate public sector employment. While it has caused concern among affected staff, the directive suggests a push for stricter governance and proper employment procedures moving forward.

For now, affected individuals are advised to stay informed and monitor updates from GES regarding any potential changes or further instructions.
