List of call unresponsive Public Universities in Ghana

The state of communication and responsiveness in Ghana’s public universities has recently come under scrutiny, thanks to Africa Education Watch’s Open Governance Report III. According to the report, only 7 out of the 16 Public Universities responded to test inquiry phone calls placed to their official telephone lines.

This finding has raised concerns among stakeholders, as it includes some premier institutions that are expected to set high standards. In this blog post, we will shed light on the call-unresponsive public universities in Ghana and explore the implications of their lack of communication.

University of Ghana

As one of the country’s oldest and most prestigious universities, the University of Ghana’s failure to respond to test inquiry phone calls is disappointing. Being a leading institution, it should serve as a role model for others in terms of transparency and accountability. The lack of responsiveness raises questions about their commitment to addressing public concerns.

Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST)

KNUST’s absence from the list of call-responsive universities is surprising, given its reputation for academic excellence. University of Cape Coast (UCC)

University for Development Studies (UDS)

UDS’s lack of response to test phone calls raises questions about its commitment to the development of Northern Ghana. As an institution established to address the unique needs of the region, effective communication with the public is crucial for fulfilling its mission.

University of Education, Winneba (UEW)

University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS)

UHAS’s absence from the list of call-responsive universities is concerning, given its focus on health-related programs. Effective communication is crucial in the healthcare sector, and UHAS should take steps to improve its responsiveness to the public.

University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA)

UPSA’s non-responsiveness to test phone calls is disappointing, especially considering its specialized focus on business and professional education. Effective communication is essential in preparing students for the corporate world, and UPSA should strive to enhance its engagement with the public.

Ghana Communication Technology University (GCTU)

Akenten Appiah–Menka University of Skills Training & Entrepreneurial Development (AAMUSTED)

AAMUSTED’s non-responsiveness to test phone calls is unfortunate, given its focus on skills training and entrepreneurship. Effective communication is crucial for fostering partnerships with industries and promoting entrepreneurship among students.

Effective communication is vital in the education sector, and universities play a critical role in setting an example for other institutions and the government. It is our hope that this report will serve as a wake-up call for these universities to prioritize transparency, accountability, and responsiveness to the public they serve.

By embracing effective communication practices, these institutions can build trust, foster positive relationships, and contribute to the overall growth and development of the country’s education sector.
