The National Championship of the National Science and Maths Quiz for the year 2023 concluded with an electrifying finale on Monday, October 30, as the prestigious Presbyterian Boys’ Secondary School, Legon, emerged victorious, clinching their eighth championship title.
This remarkable achievement solidifies PRESEC, Legon’s status as an NSMQ powerhouse, having previously won the coveted title in 1995, 2003, 2006, 2008, 2009, 2020, 2022, and now 2023.
The competition was fierce, but PRESEC, Legon displayed exceptional knowledge and quick thinking throughout the contest. Let us take a closer look at how they achieved their victory:
End of Round 1
In the first round, PRESEC, Legon set the tone by amassing 18 points. Their rivals, Achimota School and Opoku Ware School, lagged behind with 12 points each.
End of Round 2
PRESEC, Legon continued to dominate in the second round, accumulating 23 points, while Opoku Ware School and Achimota School lagged behind with 14 and 12 points, respectively.
End of Round 3
As the competition progressed, PRESEC, Legon further extended their lead, securing 27 points. Opoku Ware School and Achimota School made valiant efforts with 16 and 15 points, respectively, but the gap was becoming more evident.
End of Round 4
The penultimate round saw a spirited fightback from Achimota School, as they managed to gather 28 points. PRESEC, Legon maintained their lead, ending the round with 31 points. Opoku Ware School had 20 points to their name.
End of Contest
In the final round, PRESEC, Legon put the finishing touches on their masterful performance, reaching a total of 40 points. Achimota School displayed commendable resilience, finishing with 28 points, while Opoku Ware School concluded with 23 points.
