In the hallowed halls of academia, few accolades shine as brightly as that of valedictorian. It is a distinction reserved for those who not only excel in their studies but also demonstrate exceptional dedication to their field. Aba Akebi Atta-Eyison, a beacon of scholarly excellence, recently ascended to this prestigious title at the 12th Session of the 56th Congregation of the University of Cape Coast (UCC).
Born on April 17, 1980, in the vibrant town of Tarkwa, nestled in Ghana’s Western Region, Aba’s academic journey began with her primary education at the University of Mines and Technology School. It was here that her passion for learning ignited, setting her on a trajectory of intellectual pursuit. This flame only intensified as she progressed through her schooling, climaxing in her graduation from Ghana National College in 1999.
In August 2001, Aba embarked on her higher education journey at the University of Cape Coast (UCC), where she pursued a Bachelor of Science in Physical Sciences. Four years later, she was armed with a Second Class Upper Honors degree. Undeterred by the challenges of academia, Aba continued her quest for knowledge, earning a Master of Philosophy in Chemistry in September 2018, a feat achieved with the prestigious Dean’s Award of Excellence.
Fueled by a thirst for innovation and a desire to make meaningful contributions to her field, Aba embarked on her doctoral journey in Chemistry in January 2020. Over the next three years, she immersed herself in groundbreaking research aimed at developing and characterizing innovative photocatalysts for efficient and sustainable environmental remediation processes. Her pioneering work bore fruit, with her research findings garnering recognition in esteemed scientific journals such as Catalysis Communications.
Despite her academic accolades, Aba remains grounded in her commitment to education and service. Currently serving as a lecturer in the Department of Industrial and Health Sciences at Takoradi Technical University, she imparts her wealth of knowledge to the next generation of chemists. Through her teaching of undergraduate courses in Analytical Chemistry and Organic Chemistry, she seeks to instill in her students a strong foundation in chemistry and foster their understanding of its important role in addressing environmental challenges.
Beyond the realm of academia, Aba is a pillar of her community, a staunch member of the Methodist Church Ghana, Good Shepherd Society, Takoradi. She finds balance and strength in her role as a wife to Mr. Brian Atta-Eyison and a mother to four children.
