Traditional Halls of the University of Cape Coast

1. Kwame Nkrumah Hall

Named after Ghana’s first president, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, this hall stands as a symbol of leadership and patriotism. It is one of the largest halls on campus, accommodating both male and female students. Known for its vibrant and competitive spirit, Nkrumah Hall boasts a reputation for excellence in sports and debates.

Fun fact: Residents proudly refer to themselves as “Nkrumahites,” and their hall is affectionately called “Nkrumah City.”

2. Valco Hall

This hall was originally built to accommodate Valco Trust Fund scholars and has since become one of the most prestigious halls on campus. Valco Hall residents are known for their discipline, academic focus, and strong sense of community. The hall’s prime location provides easy access to essential campus facilities.

Motto: “Unity in Diversity.”

3. Atlantic Hall

Famed for its lively and colorful traditions, Atlantic Hall, or “ATL,” is a popular choice among students. Its vibrant community spirit is unmatched, with residents actively participating in hall events and inter-hall competitions. ATL is known for its legendary “Atlantic Hall Week,” which draws students and visitors from across the country.

Nickname: “The Mariners.”

4. Oguaa Hall

Oguaa Hall derives its name from the local Fante word for Cape Coast, symbolizing its strong connection to the city. This hall fosters a friendly and inclusive environment for both male and female students. It is also known for its serene surroundings and academic focus.

Motto: “Unity, Peace, and Development.”

5. Adehye Hall

As the only all-female traditional hall at UCC, Adehye Hall is synonymous with elegance, empowerment, and sisterhood. Residents of Adehye Hall are called “Adehye Ladies,” and the hall promotes a strong sense of community and mutual support among its members. It also organizes several female-focused events to inspire and empower its residents.

Motto: “Unity and Excellence.”

6. Casely Hayford Hall (Casford)

Casely Hayford Hall, popularly known as “Casford,” is an all-male hall and arguably the most well-known traditional hall at UCC. Casfordians are celebrated for their unmatched sense of pride, resilience, and hall spirit. The hall is also renowned for its iconic annual Casford Week, which features vibrant celebrations and activities.

Motto: “Truth Stands.”

7. SRC Hall

The SRC Hall, though relatively newer compared to the others, has grown to become an integral part of the UCC community. It accommodates both male and female students and is known for its peaceful and welcoming environment. Its proximity to academic facilities makes it a convenient choice for students.

Fun fact: The hall serves as a tribute to the university’s Students’ Representative Council.

8. Superannuation Hall (Super Hall)

One of the quieter halls on campus, Super Hall offers a calm and relaxed atmosphere that is ideal for students who prefer a more peaceful living environment. It has a rich history and plays an important role in accommodating students who prefer to live away from the bustling campus center.

Nickname: “Super.”

Choosing Your Hall

Each Traditional Hall at UCC offers a unique experience. From the spirited Casfordians to the elegant Adehye Ladies, every hall contributes to the rich and diverse culture of the university. When choosing a hall, consider factors like proximity to lecture halls, amenities, and the hall’s traditions and values.
