The Teacher Trainees’ Association of Ghana (TTAG) has released a fresh update on the status of teacher trainee recruitment in Ghana 2025, addressing concerns over the 2022 backlog of trained teachers and the 2023 year batch. The association is demanding urgent action from the Government of Ghana to resolve delays in postings and the non-payment of salary arrears owed to newly recruited teachers.
In a press release dated September 8, 2025, TTAG expressed disappointment over the prolonged silence surrounding the recruitment and placement of graduate teachers. The association further revealed that some newly posted teachers have not received salaries for over ten months, a situation that has caused financial strain and discouragement among its members.
TTAG believes that resolving these issues quickly will not only bring relief to teachers but also help rebuild public confidence in Ghana’s educational system.
TTAG’s Key Demands from Government
The statement outlined three major appeals to the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Finance:
- Transparent Recruitment and Posting Updates
TTAG wants the government to provide a clear update on postings for both the 2022 backlog and the 2023 batch of teacher trainees, to eliminate uncertainty and anxiety. - Settlement of Salary Arrears
The association has called on the government to expedite payment of accumulated salary arrears for newly recruited teachers, stressing that many are struggling under severe financial burdens. - Clear Timelines for Processes
TTAG emphasized that specific timelines for recruitment, placement, and payment of salaries should be communicated to all stakeholders. This, they argue, will help maintain calm and confidence among teacher trainees.
TTAG’s Position
TTAG acknowledged efforts previously made by the government to address some trainee concerns. However, the association has warned that if the current issues remain unresolved, it will be forced to consider other legitimate actions to defend the welfare and dignity of teacher trainees.
The statement, signed by Victor Atsu Anyidoho (General Secretary) and Nanija Divine (President), ended with a strong commitment to its members under the slogan:
