The Youth Employment Agency (YEA) is making headlines again with the successful commissioning of its first batch of recruits under the groundbreaking Youth in Private Security initiative. In partnership with G4S Security Services Ghana, the agency has rolled out an ambitious plan to tackle youth unemployment through strategic private sector collaboration — and the numbers are already impressive.
According to YEA’s Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Malik Basintale, the response to the program has been overwhelming. Within just one week of opening the application portal, a massive 9,184 applications were received. These were broken down into:
- 5,406 applicants for Security Guard roles
- 3,778 applicants for Patrol Supervisor positions
This enthusiastic response highlights the eagerness of Ghanaian youth to find dignified employment, especially in structured and professional environments.
A vibrant passing-out ceremony was held in Accra to officially commission the first batch of 100 young recruits, marking a key milestone in this national employment drive. These individuals have successfully completed their training and are now ready for deployment by G4S Security Services.
In the Greater Accra Region alone, 2,034 applications were received. Out of this pool, 500 candidates were shortlisted, and training is being conducted in cohorts of 100. With the first group now set to start work, the second batch will begin training immediately after the initial ceremony.
During his address, Mr. Basintale commended G4S for not just creating jobs but for offering hope, dignity, and professional growth to Ghanaian youth. He urged more private sector players to emulate this commitment and partner with YEA to expand job creation across various sectors.
The momentum isn’t slowing down. The next stop for the Youth in Private Security initiative is the Ashanti and Western Regions, where similar recruitment and training programs are scheduled to roll out in the coming days.
Mr. Basintale also highlighted that this initiative ties directly into the broader vision of H.E. John Dramani Mahama, whose policies prioritize youth empowerment, skills development, and sustainable job creation.
