In an astounding achievement for Ghana, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, the nation’s Education Minister, has been appointed as the head of the prestigious African Curriculum Association (ACA). This announcement was proudly shared on his official Facebook page, displaying the honor he felt in being part of the 4th ACA Conference held in Nairobi, Kenya.

The ACA, founded in 2018, aims to unite curriculum experts from across the African continent to strengthen National Curriculum Centers through international best practices. With a significant membership from various African countries, the ACA plays a vital role in shaping the educational landscape of the continent.

During the ACA conference, Dr. Adutwum passionately urged participants and curriculum experts from different African nations to develop a critical curriculum that could truly transform the face of education in Africa. One of the central themes he emphasized was the urgent need to redefine the continent’s narrative, moving away from the label of a poverty-stricken region.

To achieve this, he asserted that it is imperative to design an innovative and creative curriculum that fosters innovation and empowers the African youth to excel in the global arena.

In his address, Dr. Adutwum passionately implored African educational leaders not to preside over an educational system that stifles the potential of African children but instead to empower them to become extraordinary individuals. He stressed the importance of cultivating a curriculum that nurtures critical thinking, problem-solving skills, and creativity.

Dr. Adutwum emphasized that Africa must adopt innovative strategies to catch up with the developed world. As the patron of the ACA, he highlighted Ghana’s ongoing initiatives aimed at transforming education. One of the cornerstones of Ghana’s approach is the promotion of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) education.

Throughout the conference, Dr. Adutwum encouraged collaboration among African nations to share best practices and learn from one another. He stressed that the challenges facing education in Africa are not unique to any one country and require a united effort to bring about lasting change.

By leveraging the collective expertise of curriculum experts from different nations, the ACA can make significant strides in advancing the continent’s educational standards.
