In a major development aimed at strengthening Ghana’s educational workforce, the Minister of Education, Hon. Haruna Iddrisu, has announced that the government is set to recruit 50,000 teachers and 10,000 non-teaching staff in the 2025 calendar year. This announcement was made during his address to Parliament on Wednesday, June 25, 2025.
According to the Minister, the recruitment drive forms part of the government’s broader strategy to improve the quality of education and enhance learning outcomes across the country. “I met with Bafour Eric this morning, and I will soon share the details with the public. During our discussion, he indicated to me that clearance for recruitment was received as far back as May. These recruits were expected to start work in August but unfortunately began in September,” Hon. Iddrisu explained.
He further clarified that the clearance issued by the Ministry of Finance had a validity period that expired on December 31, 2024. As a result, the recruitment process could only proceed upon the renewal of this clearance, which the Ministry of Education is currently awaiting. The Minister urged aspiring recruits and the general public to remain patient and assured them that the necessary processes are being fast-tracked.
“Let them be assured. As I have assured this House, 50,000 teachers will be recruited, along with 10,000 non-teaching staff. Adequate provision was made for this in the 2025 budget,” he reiterated.
