The National Teaching Council (NTC) of Ghana has recently announced the eagerly awaited date for the 2023 Ghana Teacher Licensure Examination (GTLE) II. Taking place from the 13th to the 15th of September 2023, this examination holds immense significance for fresh.
With the implementation of GTLE reforms this year, it’s crucial for all aspiring teachers to be aware of the upcoming examination date and the changes it brings.
Candidates who have received referrals in the traditional GTLE subjects of Essential Professional Skills, Literacy, and Numeracy, the NTC has generously offered three opportunities for redemption.
The first two chances have already been utilized, with the third and final opportunity scheduled for November 2023. It is vital for re-sit candidates to seize this last chance to write the GTLE in order to attain the required licensure.
Starting from 2024, the NTC will implement significant changes by phasing out the traditional GTLE subjects. This means that there will no longer be examinations conducted for these subjects from the following year onwards.
Any degree holder who has referrals in the traditional GTLE and wishes to reattempt the examination must embrace the new dispensation called the Subject-Based GTLE (SBGTLE) starting in 2024.
Diploma Holders who have received referrals in the traditional GTLE and aspire to write the SBGTLE will need to obtain a degree first. This requirement emphasizes the importance of higher education for professional growth and aims to align the licensing process with global standards.
It presents an opportunity for diplomates to enhance their knowledge and skills by pursuing a degree program, thereby opening doors to broader career prospects and ensuring a strong foundation for their teaching careers.
