The National Teaching Council (NTC) has officially announced the examination dates for the 2025 Ghana Teacher Licensure Examination (GTLE) I. This key professional assessment for teachers is scheduled to take place from Friday, 18th July to Sunday, 20th July 2025 across various examination centres nationwide.

These three days will see both fresh candidates and resit candidates sit for their respective licensure papers, aimed at assessing their readiness to teach professionally in line with the National Teachers’ Standards.
Who Will Be Writing the Exam?
The GTLE I is open to:
- Fresh graduates with a Bachelor of Education or Postgraduate Diploma in Education (including those currently doing national service)
- Resit candidates who have previously attempted the GTLE but are yet to pass all required papers
Structure of the Examination
All fresh candidates are required to write three papers:
- General Professional Knowledge – Covers numeracy, literacy, and essential professional skills.
- Grade-Level Pedagogy – Based on candidate’s specialism (e.g., Early Childhood, Primary, JHS, SHS/TVET).
- Subject Content Knowledge – Multiple or Single Subject depending on level of training.
Resit candidates will write only the paper(s) they have outstanding.

NTC has clearly stated that no late registration will be accepted beyond the July 7 deadline. This makes it crucial for all candidates to register early to avoid disqualification.

Check your indexing status at indexing.ntc.gov.gh before proceeding. Indexing is a one-time process required before registering for the exam. - Pay Registration Fees
- Fresh candidates (3 papers): GH₵450.00, Resit (1 paper): GH₵150.00, Resit (2 papers): GH₵210.00, Resit (3 papers): GH₵385.00
- Complete Online Registration
Visit exams.ntc.gov.gh, input your e-voucher details, upload a passport photo (white background, under 250kb), review the form, and submit.
Final Note
This upcoming licensure examination is a make-or-break moment, especially for resit candidates. Those who do not pass this and the final resit in October 2025 will be required to restart the licensure process under the revised system starting in 2026.
