In the realm of academia, certain individuals stand out for their remarkable contributions and dedication to both research and teaching. One such luminary is Professor Daniel Agyapong, a distinguished scholar in Finance and Entrepreneurship at the University of Cape Coast (UCC) in Ghana.
Born in 1974 in the picturesque town of Sefwi Anhiawso in the Western North Region, Prof. Agyapong’s journey from a small-town upbringing to becoming a full-fledged Professor is nothing short of inspirational.
Prof. Agyapong’s educational odyssey commenced at Suhum Secondary Technical School (SUTESCO). His pursuit of knowledge then led him to the University of Cape Coast in 1999, where he began his academic journey. Joining as a Senior Research Assistant in 2004, he swiftly climbed the ranks, earning the position of Principal Research Assistant.
Furthering his academic credentials, Prof. Agyapong embarked on a two-year Master of Philosophy in Business Administration (Finance) at the University of Ghana, completing the program in 2007. This educational endeavor laid the foundation for his future contributions to the field of finance.
The year 2009 marked a significant turning point as Prof. Agyapong transitioned into a lecturer role at UCC. His passion for teaching and research became evident, earning him a promotion to Senior Lecturer in 2013. Determined to deepen his understanding of finance, he pursued a PhD in Business Administration (Finance) at the Open University Malaysia, attaining this prestigious qualification in 2015.
Prof. Agyapong’s dedication and expertise did not go unnoticed. In 2017, he ascended to the position of Associate Professor, a testament to his outstanding contributions to the fields of Finance and Entrepreneurship. His journey reached its pinnacle in February 2021 when he was promoted to the esteemed position of full Professor in Finance and Entrepreneurship.
Prof. Agyapong’s impact extends beyond the classroom, with over 70 research outputs to his name. His extensive body of work focuses on Conventional Finance and Small and Medium Enterprise (SME) financing, addressing critical issues that resonate with the economic landscape of Ghana and beyond.
In August 2022, Prof. Agyapong assumed the role of Director of the Directorate of Academic Planning and Quality Assurance at UCC, showcasing his commitment to the institution’s overall development.
Beyond academia, Prof. Agyapong is an active member of the University of Cape Coast Interdenominational Church (UIC), reflecting his commitment to spiritual and community values. In his personal life, he is married to Prof. Gloria K.Q Agyapong, and together they share the joys and responsibilities of raising three children.
On Thursday, 1 February 2024, Prof. Daniel Agyapong delivered his inaugural lecture titled “Entrepreneurship and Small Enterprises’ Development Night Journey: The Road Monsters, Fairies, and Angels.” This captivating lecture delved into the intricacies of entrepreneurship and SME development, offering insights gained from years of dedicated research and practical experience.
