In the bustling town of Devego in the Volta Region of Ghana, emerged a beacon of academic excellence – Professor John Gatsi. His journey through academia has been evidence of perseverance, dedication, and a thirst for knowledge.
Prof. John Gatsi’s educational odyssey commenced in 1988 when he completed his primary and middle school education at Ohawu R/C Primary and L/A Middle School. Fuelled by a passion for science, he obtained his General Certificate of Education (GCE) Ordinary Level Certificate in Science from Keta Secondary Technical School in 1993. Undeterred by challenges, he pursued his sixth-form education at the same institution, culminating in the achievement of his GCE Advanced Level in 1995.
The pursuit of higher education beckoned, leading him to the prestigious University of Ghana (UG), where he embarked on a Bachelor of Science in Administration with an Accounting option. In 2000, he proudly graduated from the University of Ghana, marking the culmination of his undergraduate journey.
The quest for knowledge transcended borders as he ventured to Gothenburg University, Sweden, where he was admitted to pursue a Master of Science in International Accounting from 2003 to 2006. Armed with a profound understanding of finance and accounting, he returned to Ghana and joined the University of Cape Coast (UCC) as a lecturer in 2007.
Ever the seeker of intellectual enrichment, Prof. Gatsi furthered his academic pursuits, obtaining a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) from the University of Ghana Law School in 2011. His commitment to academia bore fruit as he ascended to the rank of Senior Lecturer in 2012, solidifying his position as a respected authority in his field.
In 2014, he added another accolade to his repertoire, obtaining a PhD in Finance from the Central University of Nicaragua. His scholarly contributions did not go unnoticed, as evidenced by his recognition as the Best Lecturer by the UCC-SRC in 2016.
With each milestone, Prof. Gatsi’s influence in academia grew, culminating in his promotion to Associate Professor in the same year. From 2016 to 2019, he assumed the mantle of leadership as the Head of the Department of Finance, where he steered the department towards excellence.
His legal acumen was affirmed in 2017 when he was called to the Bar after completing the professional Law Program at the Ghana School of Law. Undeterred by the demands of legal studies, he continued to nurture future scholars, supervising numerous M.Com and MBA students since 2017.
In 2019, Prof. Gatsi’s leadership prowess was acknowledged as he was appointed Dean of the School of Business at UCC. His tenure, marked by visionary leadership and unwavering dedication, is slated to conclude in July 2025.
