Early Life and Education
Prof. Rosemond Boohene hails from Larteh Akwapim in the Akuapem North Municipality of the Eastern Region. Her educational journey began at Accra New Town Experimental School, followed by Aburi Middle Girls Boarding School. She attended Wesley Grammar School in Accra for her Ordinary Level Certificate and completed her Advanced Level Examination with excellent grades at Winneba Secondary School in 1988.
Prof. Boohene pursued higher education at the University of Cape Coast (UCC), where she earned a Bachelor of Commerce and a Diploma in Education concurrently. Her academic pursuits took her further to New Zealand, where she obtained an MCom in Accounting from the University of Otago in 1999.
Academic and Professional Journey
Prof. Boohene’s career at UCC began with her appointment as Principal Research Assistant between 1995 and 1997. Her expertise and dedication led to her appointment as a Lecturer and later as a Senior Lecturer at UCC from October 2007 to April 2012. She also earned a Diploma in Small and Medium Enterprise Development from Galilee College, Israel, in 2008.
In 2008, she expanded her teaching horizons as a Visiting Lecturer at the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA), where she taught Entrepreneurship and New Venture Creation in the Executive Master’s programme. She also served as the Head of the Department of Management at UCC from 2008 to 2012 and as Vice-Dean of the School of Business-UCC between 2009 and 2011.
Leadership Roles
Prof. Boohene’s leadership capabilities were further recognized when she assumed the role of Dean of the Faculty of Arts from 2012 to 2016. Concurrently, she was appointed Director of the Centre for Entrepreneurship and Small Enterprise Development (CESED) at UCC from 2013 to 2016. Her leadership journey continued as she became the Dean of the Centre for International Education, now known as the Office of International Relations at UCC.
From 2019 to 2020, Prof. Boohene served as a Visiting Professor in the Department of Business Administration at Bonn Rhein-Sieg University of Applied Sciences, Germany. She was reappointed as the Director of CESED at UCC from 2020 to 2022.
In 2022, Prof. Boohene was appointed as the Pro Vice-Chancellor of UCC, a position she currently holds.
Personal Life and Interests
Prof. Rosemond Boohene is married to Mr. Kwame Akonnoh Boohene, and they have a son and two daughters. She enjoys dog breeding, watching films, cooking, and singing. As a staunch Christian, she is actively involved with the UCC Interdenominational Church.
Inaugural Lecture
On Thursday, July 11, 2024, Prof. Boohene delivered an inaugural lecture titled “Entrepreneurship and Enterprise Development in Practice: Tracking the Pathways,” reflecting her profound expertise and commitment to entrepreneurship and enterprise development.
