On Thursday, 11th July 2024, the University of Cape Coast (UCC) proudly announced that it will confer an Honorary Doctorate Degree (Honoris Causa) on His Royal Majesty Otumfour Osei Tutu II, the Asantehene. This prestigious recognition will be awarded on Thursday, 5th September 2024, at the New Examination Centre (NEC), UCC, starting at 11:00 am.
This honorary degree celebrates Otumfour Osei Tutu II’s exemplary services to Ghana, particularly his dedication to fostering unity and development in the Asante Kingdom and other parts of the country. UCC acknowledges his significant contributions to humanity, especially in water and sanitation, health, education, entrepreneurship, and the preservation of culture and heritage.
The University also commends His Royal Majesty’s unwavering commitment to peace and democracy. Notably, he successfully persuaded leaders of various political parties in Ghana to sign a peace pledge to ensure tranquility before, during, and after the Presidential and Parliamentary elections in 2012.
Moreover, UCC recognizes Otumfour Osei Tutu II’s instrumental role as the head of the Mediation Committee that resolved the Dagbon chieftaincy dispute. His reputation for peaceful conflict resolution is further highlighted by his involvement in settling over 500 land and chieftaincy disputes within his domain and beyond.
