The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has issued an important update regarding the post-examination activities for the 2024 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for school candidates. According to a press release dated December 9, 2024, the Council highlighted the current status of processes leading up to the release of results.
The WASSCE for school candidates commenced on August 5, 2024, and successfully concluded on September 20, 2024. Following the examination, the marking of essays and other practical components began on November 7, 2024, and was completed on November 29, 2024. However, WAEC has encountered delays in the scanning of objective test answer sheets due to technical challenges.
Technical Challenges and Funding Issues
The Council disclosed that the scanning process, originally scheduled to run from November 1 to November 30, 2024, was interrupted by the breakdown of scanners critical to the operation. These challenges have further delayed the process of analyzing the examination data.
WAEC is awaiting the release of additional funds from the Ministry of Education to resolve the issue. Specifically, the Council is seeking GH₵118,000,000.00 to repair the scanners and ensure the smooth continuation of the post-examination activities. This funding is part of an outstanding balance owed by the Ministry, and its release is essential to expedite the scanning process and other critical steps needed to finalize the results.
Appeal to Examination Officials and the Public
WAEC has appealed to examination officials and service providers to remain patient as they await the release of funds from the Ministry of Education. The Council has reassured stakeholders that payments for their services will be made as soon as the required funds are disbursed.
The Council also addressed misinformation circulating on social media, cautioning the public to disregard false reports about the release dates of the 2024 WASSCE results. WAEC emphasized that results will only be released once the technical challenges are resolved and the necessary processes are completed.
