In a recent turn of events, the University of Cape Coast (UCC) finds itself debunking misleading information circulating on Ghanaweb.
The false report suggests that UCC’s operations have been banned in Nigeria, prompting the institution’s management to set the record straight.
According to a media release issued on Thursday, 4th January 2024, UCC vehemently denies the allegations, presenting key points to clarify the situation:
No Operations in Nigeria: Contrary to the claims, UCC asserts that it does not have any outlets or campuses in Nigeria. Furthermore, the university has not granted franchise rights to any institution in Nigeria to conduct its programs.
Direct Application Process: All international students, including Nigerians, aspiring to study at UCC are required to apply directly to the university for consideration. There are no intermediaries or affiliated campuses in Nigeria.
Misidentification by Ghanaweb: The university criticizes Ghanaweb for hastily publishing the news without proper verification. It highlights that Ghanaweb mistakenly associated the alleged ban with a different institution named Cape Coast University (CCU) instead of the renowned University of Cape Coast (UCC).
Commitment to Reputation: UCC management emphasizes its commitment to maintaining the institution’s solid brand as an excellent academic establishment with global recognition. The university affirms its dedication to upholding its hard-earned reputation as the Number One University in Ghana and West Africa, and the Seventh in Africa, as per the 2024 Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings.
Verification of Certificates: The release advises individuals and institutions to verify the authenticity of certificates claimed to be issued by UCC directly with the university. This precautionary measure aims to ensure the legitimacy of academic credentials.
UCC’s Directorate of Public Affairs, represented by Major Kofi Baah-Bentum (Rid), Psc, APR, urges stakeholders and the general public to disregard the false and malicious publication. The university remains steadfast in its pursuit of academic excellence and urges all parties to crosscheck information before spreading unverified claims.
