In a recent announcement, Dr. Samuel Addae-Boateng, the General Secretary of the Conference of Principals of Colleges of Education (PRINCOF), has officially submitted the approved academic calendar for the 2023/2024 academic year.
The calendar, sanctioned by PRINCOF, the Ghana Teacher Education Council (GTEC), and the Ministry of Education, is intended for use by the forty-six public Colleges of Education across Ghana.
This academic year brings a significant change in the operational policy for the colleges. Referred to as the IN-IN-IN-OUT Residential Policy, this approach will see Levels 100 to 300 students accommodated on campus simultaneously, while Level 400 students will commute from outside the campus for their lectures.
Dr. Addae-Boateng emphasizes that this new arrangement aims to synchronize the academic calendar for all students throughout the year.
The approved academic calendar for the 2023/2024 academic year outlines key dates and activities that will shape the educational landscape for students in the public Colleges of Education in Ghana.
Notably, the calendar reflects a structured approach to academic activities, allowing for effective planning by both faculty and students.
The academic journey kicks off on January 10, as B.Ed Level 400 students report to campus for orientation in Macro Teaching. Shortly after, on January 14, Level 400 students will head to their respective Schools of Attachment for further Macro Teaching sessions.
Simultaneously, B.Ed Levels 100, 200, and 300 students will commence the First Semester on January 15, spanning 14 weeks.
The first semester concludes with End-of-First Semester Examinations for B.Ed Levels 100, 200, and 300 students from April 8 to April 19. Subsequently, a Semester Break is scheduled from April 21 to May 31, offering students a well-deserved rest.
As the calendar progresses, June 2, marks the commencement of the Second Semester, lasting 14 weeks. However, a notable shift in this semester is that Level 400 students will reside outside the campus during this period.
The academic year reaches its culmination with the End-of-Second Semester Examinations for all levels from August 26 to September 6.
Following the examinations, on September 7, students across all levels – 100, 200, 300, and 400 – will officially conclude their academic year and go down. Looking ahead, the 2024/2025 Academic Year is set to begin on October 7.
Educational stakeholders, including Vice Chancellors of various universities and key officials from the Ministry of Education, have been informed of these developments through a distribution list provided by Dr. Addae-Boateng.
This ensures that the approved calendar serves as a guiding framework for planning all academic activities for the upcoming academic year.
In signing off, Dr. Samuel Addae-Boateng urges all institutions to adhere to the approved calendar, expressing gratitude for their cooperation.
As the new academic year unfolds, the synchronized approach promises a more streamlined and efficient educational experience for students across Ghana’s public Colleges of Education.
