In a recent announcement from the General Secretary of the Conference of Principals of Colleges of Education (PRINCOF), Dr. Samuel Addae-Boateng, the approved academic calendar for the 2023/2024 academic year has been released.
The calendar, sanctioned by PRINCOF, the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC), and the Ministry of Education, outlines significant changes in the operational policies for the forty-six (46) public Colleges of Education in Ghana.
One of the major adjustments highlighted by Dr. Addae-Boateng is the implementation of a new residential policy termed “IN-IN-IN-OUT” for the upcoming academic year.
Under this policy, students from Levels 100 to 300 will be accommodated on campus simultaneously, fostering a shared learning environment. In contrast, Level 400 students will adopt a commuting approach, attending lectures from outside the campus. This novel arrangement aims to synchronize the academic experiences of all students throughout the academic year.
Reopening & vacation dates for College of Education students in Ghana 2023/2024
- January 10, 2024: B.Ed Level 400 students report to campus for orientation for Macro Teaching.
- January 14, 2024: B.Ed Level 400 students report to their Schools of Attachment for Macro Teaching.
- January 15, 2024: B.Ed Levels 100, 200, and 300 students report to campus for the First Semester, spanning 14 weeks.
- April 8 – 19, 2024: End-of-First Semester Examinations for B.Ed Levels 100, 200, and 300 students.
- April 21 – May 31, 2024: Semester Break for B.Ed Levels 100, 200, and 300 students.
- June 2, 2024: B.Ed Levels 100, 200, 300, and 400 students report to campus for the Second Semester, also spanning 14 weeks. Level 400 students will reside off-campus.
- August 26 – September 6, 2024: End-of-Second Semester Examinations for B.Ed Levels 100, 200, 300, and 400 students.
- September 7, 2024: B.Ed Levels 100, 200, 300, and 400 students conclude the academic year.
- October 7, 2024: The 2024/2025 Academic Year begins.
These dates will serve as a foundation for planning academic activities in the upcoming year. It is imperative for stakeholders, including the Vice Chancellors of various universities, the Ministry of Education, and the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission, to utilize the approved calendar for effective coordination and planning.
The focus on common reporting and vacation periods is a notable shift in policy that aims to enhance the overall academic experience for students across all levels.
