Thousands of university graduates across Ghana who fall under the “Pending for Consideration” category in the Ghana Education Service (GES) recruitment process have raised their voices, demanding immediate action. Represented by the Alliance of University Graduate Teachers Under Pending For Consideration, these graduates are calling on GES, the Ministry of Education, and the Ministry of Finance to expedite the release of their long-awaited appointment letters.

In a press release dated March 27, 2025, the Alliance announced a peaceful picketing action dubbed “Release Appointment Letters Now!” to be held at the GES Headquarters in Accra. The demonstration, which is tentatively scheduled for April 14, 2025, aims to draw attention to the delayed recruitment process and push for the prompt issuance of appointment letters to qualified applicants who have been in limbo for months—some even years.

Organizers are currently in talks with the Accra Ghana Police Service to finalize the date, and all relevant authorities—including the Minister of Education and the Director-General of GES—have been duly notified in line with the Public Order Act.

In an open letter to the government, affected graduates expressed deep frustration over the prolonged delays. Many of these graduates have spent years completing their studies, investing heavily in time, finances, and energy with the hope of contributing to Ghana’s educational sector. Now, they are faced with growing financial burdens, mental distress, and a sense of abandonment.

Families who sacrificed for their children’s education are left watching helplessly, while these graduates struggle with uncertainty and diminishing hope. Some fear being forced into economic hardship or even considering migration in search of better opportunities.

The Alliance emphasized that education is a cornerstone of national development, and these graduates are a valuable human resource waiting to serve. Delays due to bureaucracy and financial constraints, they argue, only hinder the country’s progress. They called on the government to view their employment not just as a job placement issue but as a strategic investment in Ghana’s future.

“We advocate for the prompt issuance of appointment letters to all qualified applicants, recognizing their potential contributions to Ghana’s educational system,” the statement emphasized.

Despite the formation of a three-member GES committee tasked with validating appointments—requiring affected individuals to submit documentation by March 14, 2025—many graduates remain stuck in the “Pending for Consideration” status. The upcoming demonstration is a collective call for transparency, fairness, and swift action.

Final Thoughts

The voices of these graduates reflect the larger conversation about accountability and commitment to youth employment in Ghana. Their request is simple: acknowledge their sacrifice with dignity, through employment. It’s a call for leadership and urgency—one that, if acted upon, can help transform Ghana’s educational future for the better.

Stay tuned for more updates on the picketing and official responses from GES and related ministries.
