The National Teaching Council (NTC) of Ghana has recently announced the dates and details for the upcoming 2023 Ghana Teacher Licensure Examination (GTLE) II.
This year, the NTC is embarking on significant reforms by introducing the Subject-Based Ghana Teacher Licensure Examination (SBGTLE) to test both the content and professional knowledge of prospective teachers.
In this post, we will focus on the NTC’s 2023/2024 GTLE II timetable, providing an overview of the examination structure and the changes in licensure requirements.
The 2023 GTLE II will consist of three papers that candidates need to complete:
General Professional Knowledge
This paper will assess candidates’ numeracy, literacy, and essential professional skills contents. It is scheduled to take place on September 13.
Grade-level Specialism Pedagogy Paper
The second paper will focus on pedagogical knowledge specific to different levels of specialization.
Candidates will be differentiated by their areas of expertise, including Early Grade/Early Childhood, Primary and Junior High School (JHS), Senior High School (SHS)/Senior High Technical Schools (SHTS), and Technical Vocational Schools.
This examination will be conducted on September 14.
Multiple Subjects Content or Single Subjects Content Knowledge (Subject specialism)
The third paper will be determined by the candidates’ level of specialization.
Prospective teachers trained for Early Grade/Early Childhood or Primary levels will write a multiple subjects content paper since they will teach all subjects at their respective levels. Candidates trained for Junior High, Senior High, or TVET will write a paper in their specific areas of specialization.
This examination is scheduled for September 15.
